Nestled among misty hills and lush forests, Kandy is the cultural and spiritual heart of Sri Lanka. Known for its Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and annual Esala Perahera festival, Kandy blends history, tradition, and scenic landscapes, making it a must-visit destination in the island’s Hill Country.

Kandy is cooler than Colombo, so pack light layers for evenings. The best time to visit is December to April, or in July–August for the Esala Perahera festival. Tuk-tuks and private tour driver are the easiest way to get around. At the Temple of the Tooth Relic, wear modest clothing and remove shoes before entering.
